Bill is the newest generation behind Wood Real Estate, a family business with deep roots. But stepping into a family business comes with an interesting question: How do you honor what generations before you built without simply doing everything the same way?
For Bill, the answer has been to bring his own perspective to it.
He’s been involved in different sides of the real estate world, from property development to operations, and today he is helping guide Wood Real Estate into its next chapter. The foundation is still there—the relationships, the experience and the community connections—but Bill is bringing a fresh energy to the business and helping grow its presence on Cape Cod.
That might sound simple, but buying a home is one of the biggest decisions people make. There are numbers, paperwork, negotiations and plenty of stress involved—but underneath all of that is usually a much bigger story. Someone is starting over. Someone got a new job. Someone is growing their family. Someone is finally making the move they’ve talked about for years.
During our conversation, he told us about one person in particular who came from out of state after finding a job opportunity in this area. The opportunity paid well enough that he was able to begin the job and almost immediately consider buying a home.
Think about that for a second.
A job opportunity brought someone from the midwest to this corner of Massachusetts—and suddenly, buying a house and building a life here was part of the conversation.
For Bill, stories like that are a reminder that Cape Cod is changing.
For a long time, many people have looked at the Cape as somewhere to visit, vacation or eventually retire. And of course, that will always be part of what makes this place special. But Bill has noticed something else happening, especially over the last decade and in the years since COVID.
More people are asking whether they can actually live here.
Some are coming because an opportunity brings them. Others have jobs that allow them to work remotely. Some are looking for a new environment, a new pace or simply a life that feels a little less consumed by the constant rush of the outside world.
And that is something Bill and his team hears often.
