An Update on Hyannis Main Street Lights

We wanted to thank everyone for their continued support of Hyannis Main Street and the Dress up Downtown campaign. We have received very positive feedback from locals and visitors alike about the first phase of our downtown revitalization efforts. These efforts would not have been possible without everyone’s support. While we are lucky that Hyannis Main Street is situated in a beautiful coastal area, the stormy weather and strong winds do provide additional challenges when attempting to outfit the area with outdoor tree lights. We appreciate the enthusiasm for the lights on Hyannis Main Street, and we have been working hard behind the scenes to achieve this goal in a long term and sustainable manner.

For the past year and a half, we have been working with the Town of Barnstable on a proposed capital improvement plan to make the downtown Hyannis tree lights a permanent part of the town’s infrastructure. We have discovered that using commercial grade bulbs, outlets with cord and wire that are built in and installed by professionals, that would place the lights above reachable height would be the best possible solution. By working with the town, we would be able to achieve this goal and maintain the lights on a year round basis, regardless of any challenges. Surveys show that this improvement to our streetscape is a priority to many merchants and visitors to Hyannis Main Street, with the impact of this safety and beautification effort benefiting the entire downtown.

As we work towards our goal for the capital improvement plan, we kindly ask that our supporters reach out to the town, and let them know that you support our efforts and encourage their approval of the capital improvement plan.
