Navigational Kiosks Plan for Downtown – Community Workshop
Tuesday, March 6th, 5:00pm-6:30pm The Regional Transit Authority -RTA Community Room
Hyannis, MA—February 19, 2018 — The Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District (BID), with generous financial support from the Hyannis Rotary Club, is proposing to design and create 7 new navigational kiosks in the area of Main Street, Hyannis.
The BID invites the public to attend a community workshop on Tuesday, March 6th 5:00pm to provide input regarding historic and symbol themes and color. Staff from the Main Street BID, Town of Barnstable Planning & Development Department, members from the Hyannis Rotary Club and project designer Mary-Ann Agresti will be on hand to facilitate the workshop. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6th, 5:00pm-6:30pm at the Regional Transit Authority-RTA Community Room, located in the bus station at the corner of Main and Center Street. Free parking is available in short term lot.
In advance of the workshop, the public is invited to submit ideas for historical content via email to the Hyannis Main Street BID, Elizabeth@hyannismainstreet.com
The new kiosks will replace several of the BID kiosks that are over 10 years old and stylistically outdated and in a state of disrepair. The kiosks will feature three components: Navigation (maps), Heritage (historic information) and Events (calendar). Including events and an historical component to the kiosk engages the community in a creative way and provides an opportunity to celebrate downtown Hyannis history and culture and have visitors share in the journey of honoring Hyannis Main Street history and experience the authentic local flavor. The goal of the new kiosks is to enhance the appearance of the streetscape and to guide residents and visitors along Main Street. This project is an initial, visible step in a more comprehensive program that will connect the street and promote walkability in the entire district.
